“Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout to God with loud songs of joy.
For the LORD, the Most High, is awesome,
a great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us,
and nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us,
the pride of Jacob whom he loves.
God has gone up with a shout,
the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the king of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm.
God is king over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather
as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
he is highly exalted.” NRSV
The Psalmist reminds us that “God is the king of all the earth.” The New Testament reminds us that Jesus is Lord of all the earth. Too many people act as if God signed the deed over to humankind, then removed both God and Jesus from their exalted places. They assume, now, they are free to do with the earth and its people whatever they choose.
What these individuals fail to grasp is that the covenant God has with the earth and its inhabitants is a “blood pact,” eternal and unbreakable. Not understanding this, they live lives built on one gigantic lie.
It does not take a prophet to know, in the end, who will have the last laugh (actually cry as God will mourn the loss of every soul who chooses to live the lie rather than trust in God and God’s covenant). When the time comes, I pray you and I will be people who cry with God over the lost rather than be the reason for God’s tears.
Be a blessing to someone today!
