Psalm 86:1-7

“1 Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my life, for I am devoted to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God;  3  be gracious to me, O Lord,
for to you do I cry all day long.
4 Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.
6 Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer;
listen to my cry of supplication.
7 In the day of my trouble I call on you,
for you will answer me.”  NRSV

I have always been moved by this prayer of the Psalmist. He has a clear understanding of his relationship with God. It opens the door for the Psalmist to make petitions of God, with confidence God is listening. Do you have that same “blessed assurance” when you pray?

On my own, I do not feel worthy. Who am I that I could be so bold to ask anything of God?

But, as a follower of Jesus, my worthiness to petition God comes through him, my Lord, the Christ of God. That’s what defines my relationship to God. That is what gives me the blessed assurance that God hears my prayers.

God hears yours, too!

Be a blessing to someone today!
