1 Peter 3:8-12
“8 Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9 Do not repay evil for evil or abuse for abuse; but, on the contrary, repay with a blessing. It is for this that you were called—that you might inherit a blessing.
“Those who desire life
and desire to see good days,
let them keep their tongues from evil
and their lips from speaking deceit;
11 let them turn away from evil and do good;
let them seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” NRSV
If you ever need a pep talk to inspire you as a person of faith, as a follower of Jesus, this reading would be a great place to turn. It is the blueprint for my faithfulness. It is focused on blessing, not judgment; unity, not division; sympathy, empathy, and compassion for those in need, not “not my problem.”
It is not that the building up of my faith is completed, far from it. The blueprints are there to show us what can be achieved if we use them to build our lives.
Maybe I’m a bit “pollyannish” but I believe with all my heart these blueprints will make us architects and builders of a far better world as followers of Jesus, the Master Carpenter. I’m fine with that. I pray you are, too!
Be a blessing to someone today!
