“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” NRSV
Yesterday, we looked at the things that must die. Today, we look at things that give us life, new life, in Christ, as we strive to live our lives in the full knowledge of God as revealed in Jesus of Nazareth. The author of Colossians compels us to burn the old clothes we obtained from this world and clothe ourselves with a whole new wardrobe given to us by God, our Creator. I must say, “you look mahvelous” in these custom-designed outfits made for the followers of Jesus!
My prayer, especially in the midst of the pandemic that has so disrupted the world and devasted so many lives, is that we really do strive to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, and, as a result, be a blessing, a source of hope, a light in the darkness, a sower of peace, in someone’s life today!
