“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.” John 1:1-6 NRSV
The author of the Gospel of John boldly declares at the very beginning of his Gospel that life equals light. “All things came into being through him” and what came into being “was life and light.” We dare not let any source of darkness (anyone or anything) diminish the divine light within us.
Sin is anything we do or anything we allow to separate us from God, the very source of our life and light. We pray, study, worship, serve and welcome all to make the light within us grow brighter. Our light helps others who are shrouded in darkness (of thought or circumstance) find their own light within. To see the pathway God intends them to walk, where their light is needed most. Others are sent into our lives to bless us in the same way, to “enlighten” us.
We must do all we can to push back the darkness, – in our lives, in the lives of others and in our world. We must live into our purpose, to be the light of Christ in our world. The divine light within us is our true DNA and God’s gift to the world through each of us.
